Our Roots

My name is  Kiptieu Fatty Sheriff, I'm 42 years old, and I came to England at age 24 to join my Mum and sister.

I am originally from Freetown, Sierra Leone the second child of my parents, but I left my home country due to the civil war raging on. Back home I was in Form 5 (that is about year 11 in the UK), I use to cook for my grandma who refused to eat any other relatives' food.

I am a very proud mum to my 3 beautiful girls, but unfortunately, I lost my husband 4 years ago which left me to raise our children on my own.

I worked for Boots for 15 years holding various positions from Sales Assistant, Healthcare Assistant, and Assistant Manager before I was made redundant in August 2020.

I started cooking after I lost my job as my sister advised me to follow my passion.

So I decided to start cooking around October 2020 and with help and support from my friends and family, I am able to pursue my dream.

FEATURING ON CHANNEL 5'S RICH HOUSE, POOR HOUSE

Kiptieu and Bongos’ Kitchen were originally featured on Channel 5’s hit TV program ‘Rich House, Poor House’  in February 2021, where she swapped lives with business and wealth coach Adam Stott.

Kiptieu’s drive and determination to make a success of Bongos’ Kitchen were apparent throughout the episode – Adam was so impressed with her (and the delicious food!) that he decided to pledge his support and help her launch and grow the business.
